Golf: A socially-distanced game for everyone!

In the age of social distance requirements, one sport stands tall against all others, and offers both new and old players a chance to learn and exercise at the same time! With outdoor players separated by 8 feet and all guidelines in effect, golf offers the perfect opportunity for families to enjoy time together and still be safe.
Over the past few years, the sport has been continuously on the rise, and the driving force behind this rise is President of the Guyana Golf Association, Aleem Hussain.
Through strategic partnerships and strong marketing (he credits much of the promotion to the media partners), the game has gained popularity and national attention to the point where sponsors and players are all vying for a spot at the Academy.

With names like Tiger Woods and Dustin Johnson, Golf is a sport that has always caught the attention of millions of fans, and with countries like Saudia Arabia and Dubai, UAE investing billions of dollars into developing the game, Guyana is in a perfect position to capitalise on the potential sports tourism industry, given our newfound oil wealth.
Asked about the future of the sport in Guyana, Hussain said there were lots of ongoing discussions, and many international partners had expressed interest in aiding the development of the game, golf courses and golf resorts in the country.
“Many organisations and individuals have already made commitments to donate or provide access to training equipment and education programmes to ensure that our children can participate in international competitions.”
Now in the heart of Georgetown (between Camp & Albert streets), situated on the grounds of the Scouts Association of Guyana and the Guyana Teachers Union, the Nexgen Golf Academy & Driving Range is now within reach of thousands of students and families.
State-of-the-art lighting, coaching, equipment and unlimited play for a small hourly fee allow players to learn or sharpen their golfing skills every day from 8am to 8pm. The low rates will soon be enhanced by special offers from Monday to Friday, such as breakfast included with early morning play 6:30-8:30 am, and complimentary lunch from 11am-1pm.
“This is being done for two reasons: giving great value, and allowing us to ensure that we space out our guests to adhere to social distancing guidelines,” Rudy Ramalingum has explained.
The Golf Academy & Driving Range offers classes for players of all ages and levels, and guarantees that, within 15 minutes, any newcomer to the game would be able to make proper contact with the ball and start having fun!
Free golf camps will be conducted by Coach Colin Ming and Aleem Hussain for children aged from 3 to 15 from August 24th to September 25th. This will be sponsored by Guyana Beverages Oasis Water, CIMGRO Development Group, Nand Persaud Group of Companies, Assuria General Insurance, Ming’s Products & Services, and New Trend Auto.
